The Del Mar Racetrack begins its Thoroughbred Racing Season at the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club in oceanfront Del Mar.

It’s summertime where the turf meets the surf, and that means exhilarating races, big wins, and great music.

Del Mar Horse Racing excitement returns to the Del Mar Racetrack on July 18 through September 5 (except Labor Day and Tuesdays), as the Del Mar Racetrack begins its Thoroughbred Racing Season at the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club in oceanfront Del Mar.

The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club will celebrate 75 years as a world-class racing and entertainment destination this summer. The seaside track’s seven-week meet – filled with fast horses, free concerts and big weekend events – will commence on Wednesday, July 18, 2012.

One of the summer’s most anticipated events – Opening Day at Del Mar Horse Racing– is likely to welcome more than 46,000 celebrities, socialites and party-goers to the track to kick off the season in Kentucky Derby style with “The One and Only Truly Fabulous Hats Contest,” again showcasing Southern California’s wildest and most glamorous creations.

Besides world-class Thoroughbred racing, Del Mar is known for its incredible lineup of summer entertainment. This season, the track will welcome big name performers to the Seaside Stage for its Summer Concert Series. Race-goers can enjoy free shows from a lineup of performers.

The $1 Million TVG Pacific Classic will take place Sunday, August 26 and is expected to attract many of the country’s top jockeys, trainers and Thoroughbreds for Del’s Mar’s richest and most prestigious race.

Racing at Del Mar happens Wednesday through Sunday, with post time for the first race on most days at 2 p.m. On Fridays first post changes to 4 p.m.

The Old Globe's 2012 Shakespeare Festival is set to take place from 3rd June to 30th September, 2012. The Old Globe is located in San Diego's Balboa Park.

The Old Globe’s 2012 Shakespeare Festival will be performed in repertory at the outdoor Lowell Davies Festival Theater. Adrian Noble returns as the artistic director of the festival and will direct plays – “As You Like It” and “Inherit the Wind”.

British director Lindsay Posner will make his debut at the Old Globe with his production of Richard III, which will kick off the festival on 3rd June. Jay Whittaker will star in the title role.

Automobile aficionados and aviation enthusiasts can tighten their seatbelts for two exciting events lined up in San Diego in late May and early June.

The 15^th Annual American Heritage Car Show is set to take place Saturday, May 26, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and will provide a visual treat of out fabulous vehicles in a beautiful setting, Grape Day Park, Escondido, CA. With close to 250 vehicles parked on grass, this is one of the nicest car shows anywhere.

Start the day off at 9am with a delicious pancake breakfast. Then, walk the park to find your favorite car, while listening to a DJ spinning classic rock ‘n roll tunes. Buy some raffle tickets and you might win a fabulous prize. Local car dealers sponsor this show, which benefits the non-profit Escondido History Center. They’ll be on site with some new cars for you to see, too. Vendors offer a variety of merchandise, but you don’t need to spend any money to enjoy the American Heritage Car Show. Spectators are free, and so are tours of the Escondido History Center.

This year’s show honors local builder Randy Clark of Hot Rods & Custom Stuff. Entry for spectators is free and vehicle entry is $25. No dogs or alcohol allowed.

In its 67th year, the 2012 Del Mar National Horse Show will run Thursday, April 19, through Sunday, May 6, at the Del Mar Fairgrounds Arena. The Del Mar National Horse Show continues to be among the most respected, distinguished and popular equestrian events on the West Coast. Consisting of three distinctly different equestrian disciplines – Western, Dressage, and Hunter/Jumper – the Del Mar National represents the best in competitive opportunities for serious and world-class equestrians and is unrivaled in its entertainment appeal for everyone.

Western Week runs April 19-22, Dressage Week is April 26-29, and Hunter/Jumper Week concludes the show May 1-6.

Western Week

Each week of competition features its own signature Saturday night event: During Western Week, the”Night of the Horse” on Saturday, April 21, promises an evening full of action, celebrities, color and top-notch entertainment. A variety of equestrian disciplines will demonstrate the theme of the evening, “Why We Love Horses.” Bo Derek, actress and talented horsewoman, will bring dazzle and glamour to an already star-studded evening.

Also featured during the “Night of the Horse” will be Ramon Becerra’s dramatic liberty act magnificently illustrating the history of man and horse through a graceful performance, including elegant and difficult maneuvers. The Horse Whisperer satirical comedy routine will have the audience rolling in the aisles as they watch a horse train a dog!

There will also be Sandy Collier, the only woman to ever win the National Reining Cow Horse Association Snaffle Bit Futurity; riding her horse Stressolena and will do dizzying spins, slides, and an array of fast moves, all choreographed to music. After the show, everyone will have a chance to meet the performers and get autographs and photos. This promises to be a “Night of the Horse” to remember!

Dressage Week

Dressage Week will be from April 26^th to 29^th, 2012. You needn’t be an expert in the sport to be astonished and awed by the “Evening of Musical Freestyles” dressage competition on Saturday night, April 28. Olympic and World Champion pairs demonstrate the artistry, athleticism and awe-inspiring collaboration between horse and rider to the delight of your eyes and ears! Local resident, Olympian and World Cup Champion, Steffen Peters, will bring his nearly flawless horsemanship to the arena once again, riding Akiko Yamazaki’s magnificent horse, Ravel, along with other stellar mounts such as Weltino’s Magic. Among other notables attending this year’s show are World Class competitor, local resident, and former Olympian, the legendary Guenter Seidel.

Hunter/ Jumper Week

Hunter/ Jumper Week, May 1-6, features the $100,000 Grand Prix of Del Mar, which caps off the three weeks during an evening filled with exciting speed, agility and nail-biting competition on Saturday, May 5. Some of the best riders and horses in the nation will have you on the edge of your seat as they negotiate a difficult course of jumps exceeding five feet in height and width.
