San Diego In August

It certainly is not that hard to find a reason to vacation and unwind in sunny San Diego. The beaches, the Padres, the parks, and the festivals are certainly delightful draws to anyone at any age and any season.

San Diego this August is particularly exciting. The beaches are pretty famous, so get a little sun and tan; kick off the month with the largest female surfing event in the world – in town from August 2 – 4. The Ford Supergirl Pro is certainly something surf fans wouldn’t want to miss!

A couple of days in the sun should get you well seasoned for the slew of festivals and fairs coming to the city.

The La Jolla Music Society’s SummerFest opens on the third day of the month with auditory treats for the romantic-music-inclined ear. Of course, the Del Mar Summer Concert Series continues through the month as does the Annual International Summer Organ Festival, so you have a veritable feast of music to look forward to this summer.

For the visually oriented culture thrill-seeker, you can always spend the day browsing the authentic artwork in the three-day Latin American Festival at Bazar Del Mundo or take a stroll through the Gaslamp Quarter. The daily Trolley Tours service is a good way to see the highlights of the historical city.

If you are more for musems, the Dare to Reuse Student Art Exhibition that shows how children can create art from recycled material opens at the New Children’s Museum on August 3. The Oceanside Museum of Art displays the work of several well-known American artists this month.

Party-goers will be delighted to hear that Brewfest Encinitas the San Diego Craft Beer and Cocktail Showcase street festival start early in the month. The city famed for their craft beer makes certain that brewery tours and beer festivals abound this August.

The parks are a treat this month, with Automobile Heritage Day for auto enthusiasts held at Kimball Park on August 5, the host of music fests in Balboa Park, and the two-day Fiesta del Sol at Cesar Chavez Park.

Aviators and aspiring pilots alike can experience the excitement of the Ultralight Annual Fly-in at John Nichols Field. The showcase of small airplanes will definitely fire the imagination of both children and adults.
